Truth and Reconciliation Week / Orange Shirt Day

Truth and Reconciliation Week / Orange Shirt Day
Posted on 09/22/2023
Truth and Reconciliation Week is an opportunity to bring together people from nations and cultures across the country to continue this reconciliation journey. In the week leading up to Sept. 30th, 2023,  Orange Shirt Day, we will honour the children who were sent to residential schools and the many who never came home. Orange Shirt Day is an Indigenous-led grassroots commemorative day intended to raise awareness of the individual, family and community inter-generational impacts of residential schools, and to promote the concept of “Every Child Matters”.  The orange shirt is a symbol of the stripping away of culture, freedom and self-esteem experienced by Indigenous children over generations.  St. Thomas the Apostle School will be celebrating Orange Shirt Day on Friday, Sept. 29th, 2023. Students may wear an orange shirt or a shirt that contains the colour orange. This will be a Full Civvies Day, students do not have to wear uniform pants this day
