School screening tool updated to include new symptoms and new isolation guidance

Do you have a cold or the flu? Provincial health experts suggest you most likely have Omicron.

On January 3, the provincial government updated its symptom list to include additional symptoms like runny nose, headache, sore throat, muscle aches and vomiting/diarrhea which are more closely associated with the Omicron variant of COVID-19.

On the recommendation of the Chief Medical Officer of Health, a more sensitive COVID-19 symptom list was reinstated for daily active screening of all students and staff in schools and child care. The strengthened screening requirements were implemented to protect students and staff, and to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

Anyone who has symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 or is a confirmed positive case must self-isolate, regardless of vaccination status. If you’re sick, stay home.

Updated versions of the screening tool are posted on Ontario.ca/SchoolScreening.
