Schools are mandated to conduct one Lock Down Drill per term.
STTH will conduct a term one Lock Down Drill on Friday, January 12, 2018.
Teachers will prepare the students for this emergency preparedness activity all week.
During the drill, students will gather together in the classroom away from doors and windows. All blinds will be closed and lights will be shut off and doors locked. Students are expected to remain absolutely still and silent during the drill.
At 10:00am, the Principal will come over the PA system and announce, "Staff and students, move into lock down now." This will be repeated.
During the Lock Down, the Principal will wander from room to room, attempting to enter the locked rooms to ensure a secure building.
Once a school-wide check has occurred, the Principal will come over the PA system again and announce, "Staff and students, please move OUT of lock down now." This will be repeated.
It is understood how frightening this experience might be for some children. For this reason, much time has been allocated to allay anxiety all week. We invite parents/guardians to engage their children in conversation about this practice leading up to Friday.
Thank you as always for your continued collaboration.
